TALK TO ME, PEOPLE!

Like many authors, I vacillate between vain self-assurance about my own brilliance and utter despair at what a terrible writer I am. Hearing from you, my readers, helps to keep me in the vain self-assurance range, which may not be any more accurate than the despair, but at least it’s more comfortable.

No seriously, I do absolutely love to hear from you about my writing. I have made a personal commitment, which so far I have kept, to read every single message I get from readers. I don’t always have time to respond, but I promise you, I will read your message.

I’m a new reader. A friend gave us the first one, so I had to buy the next three. My wife likes them too.
I like your handling of issues facing today’s life in the U. S. Also how Jonah gets advice on a tough subject wondering about his own sin. Also near the end of the third book how he deals with his own anger and potential hate.
I read the first two consecutively, but after the third I had to take a brake. Your books are intense.
We were just up on the N. S. and advising some businesses to have your books.
We have been going up there at least once a year for 30 years, especially around the early part of April for our anniversary. Mostly we stay at Anderson’s Resort just north out of Grand Marais on the Croftville Road.

When will you write another great book with Jonah in he Lake Superior? I have read all of those many years ago, keeping looking for a new adventure.

    Hi Tom
Are you going to be writing another book in the Lake Superior mysteries? Oh I hope so. I have truly enjoyed the stories so far!!

Tom – thoroughly enjoyed Superior Justice, a Father’s Day gift from my son this year. On top of enjoying your writing and characters, I especially loved the settings, as last year I purchased a cabin sitting above Lake Superior in Herbster, a couple of miles off Hwy 13!

About to purchase #2 from Amazon, making it the 2nd book in my Lake Superior collection at the cabin.

Have an author you might enjoy, James Anderson. Jim , whom I shared an office with back in Portland, OR 20 years ago, has written two in a series. First was The Never Open Desert Dinner; followed by Lullaby Road (which I just read for the second time) , I believe that you’d enjoy his narrative and main character, Ben Jones. Peter

Hi Peter, thanks for your kind words. Did your friend Jim Anderson attend Oregon State during the late 80s/early 90s? If so, I may have known him in Corvallis.
Enjoy your time near the greatest lake of them all!
      Tom

Can you make some of your Lake Superior books free? I’m just a kid. I can’t buy anything. Other than that, your books are amazing! you express each situation so vividly. I almost feel as if I was there with Jonah. You are most definitely my favorite author!

Hi Tim, I have been praying for deliverance from your nagging pain and praying you are better!
Loving Superior Subterfuge… Jonah and Layla have just gotten their new Cadillacs.
Wish you were a machine, need more!
    Keep up the Good Work!
    God Bless You!

    Hey Tom
I enjoy listening to your podcasts. Just wondering what do you say to yourself or to God in times of excruciating pain ? I’m going through something quite tough myself in terms of mental health and I don’t deal with the pain of it all in the best ways sometimes.

      Hi Stefan,
I’m so sorry for what you are going through. I have people in my life that I love very much who also struggle with mental health stuff. I had a six month bout of severe depression, and my sympathy for people with those types of issues is very high.
Usually, in my most severe pain, my prayers are short, and often complaining. I sometimes literally say “Seriously Lord? We’re doing this right now?” In the most extreme moments, though, I just say: “Help me Lord! Please have mercy.”
What helps me most, however, is to remember that because the Lord lives within me through the Holy Spirit, he is WITH me in the middle of the pain. In some mystical way, he SHARES my pain. That helps, somehow.
I am also learning to reach out to close friends, and just text something like: “Hey, really struggling right now.” For some reason, sharing with others whom I trust helps a bit.
Thanks for the question, and it occurs to me that I should address this at greater length in the podcast. Grace and peace to you, Stefan!
